The “money makes you unlovable” story is a leash. money = options, safety, and the power to protect people.

Most people think confidence comes first. It does Most people think confidence comes first.

It doesn’t.

Confidence is built through action, evidence, and experience—not waiting until you’re no longer scared.

You don’t need more confidence to begin.

You need a willingness to take the next step before you feel ready.

He opened the door you weren’t supposed to open. He opened the door you weren’t supposed to open.

I went to my high school reunion last weekend and heard the most insane stories — breakups, end-of-marriage stories, life stories you could not make up. We could all be epic novels and movies. It was wild.

But one tiny thing blew my mind: apparently my high school had a bomb shelter underneath it. I had no idea.

Here’s how I found out. I’m talking to a guy and he says, “You know that door beside the office? The janitor’s door — you weren’t supposed to go in there.”

And right there is the whole difference between how he and I were raised. If there was a door I wasn’t supposed to open, as a good girl it would never have even occurred to me to touch it.

But he opened it. Walked in. Found the janitor’s cot (creepy, but okay). Walked through the janitor’s room. Behind it — a staircase down to this cavernous, weird bomb shelter.

And he’d just go hang out there sometimes. As one does when you discover a secret bomb shelter.

The point isn’t the shelter. It’s that I would never even have opened the door.

My conditioning as a good girl was simple: when something is closed, locked, and marked off-limits by authority — you don’t go there. Full stop.

And that is sitting in my soul right now.

How much of the world do I not know because I was never curious about what was forbidden to me?

How much did we never let ourselves even wonder about, because we weren’t supposed to go there?

There’s a whole life behind the doors you were too good to open.

Let’s fucking go there. 🔑
